 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Dr. Kathleen Arnn Named Headmaster of Founders Classical Academy of Leander
Arnn will head the new classical academy in Leander, TX.

LEANDER, TX — November 15, 2013 —Responsive Education Solutions (ResponsiveEd) announced today that Dr. Kathleen Arnn will become the founding Headmaster of Founders Classical Academy in Leander, Texas. Arnn is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Affairs at Morehead State University.

Arnn has a passion for classical education, as her schooling and career shows. She has taught courses in political philosophy and American political thought, and presented several academic papers, including “Justice in Aristotle’s Politics and Nicomachean Ethics” and “Cicero and Augustine on Faith, Reason, and the Best Life.”

Founders Classical Academies are the first classical charter schools in Texas created as a result of collaboration between Hillsdale College’s Barney Charter School Initiative and ResponsiveEd. Through this initiative, the College supports the launch of K-12 charter schools. These schools follow a classical liberal arts model and have a strong civics component that will equip students to understand and defend the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

“I am delighted at the opportunity. During my time as a college professor, I have seen how important childhood education really is. In their formative years, students need a rigorous education, academically challenging and rich in content,” said Arnn. “They also need an education in character, so that they develop the habits of heart and mind that will serve them for their entire lives. The classical education at Founders is a two-fold education, in serious content and in virtue, so that students are equipped not only for success, but for happiness.”

Founders Classical Academy provides time-tested methods of educating students and delivers the most cutting-edge classical education in America. The entire curriculum at Founders is based in Classical Liberal Arts and Sciences with a strong emphasis on civic education. By studying the past and analyzing the present, students will be ready to contribute to the future.

Arnn began her career at the Claremont Review of Books, where she served as the Assistant Editor. She has taught courses on United States Government, Undergraduate Seminars in Political Theory, and Introduction to Political Theory at Morehead State University. Most recently, she wrote and defended her dissertation: Happiness and the Political Life: Aristotle on Magnanimity, Justice, and Prudence.

Open enrollment for Founders Classical Academy will begin December 2 and run through January 17, 2014. If we have more applications than spaces available, a lottery will be held to determine acceptance. ResponsiveEd and Hillsdale College to Open First Classical School in Leander
Founders Classical Academy of Leander set to open Fall 2014

LEANDER, TX – August 8, 2013–Responsive Education Solutions (ResponsiveEd.com) and Hillsdale College (http://hillsdale.edu) today announce plans to open a Founders Classical Academy (http://FoundersClassical.com) in Leander in Fall 2014. The school will be the first classical charter school in Leander and the second Founders Classical Academy in Texas.

Across the country, parents are increasingly demanding a classical education for their children. To answer this growing need, ResponsiveEd, the largest charter school system in Texas, in collaboration with Hillsdale College is providing students the opportunity to receive a rigorous classical education tuition-free. These schools will follow a classical liberal arts model and have a strong civics component that will equip students to understand and defend the founding principles of our republic.

ResponsiveEd purchased the Summit Christian Academy property located at 1303 Leander Drive for the purpose of opening a Founders Classical Academy. The school will likely begin as a K-9 school in the Fall 2014 and will add an additional grade level per year until the school is K-12. Initially, the school will be able to educate more than 300 students.

Founders Classical Academy of Leander will be the second classical charter school in Texas created as a result of collaboration between ResponsiveEd and Hillsdale College’s Barney Charter School Initiative. The first school was Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville, which opened near Dallas in August 2012. The response to the school has been almost overwhelming. The campus opened with 450 students and will educate more than 700 this year.

“We chose Leander—and the greater Austin area—as the site of the second Founders Classical Academy based on local parents’ desire for a more rigorous and classical option,” said Charles Cook, CEO of ResponsiveEd. “As an organization, we are very excited about the new school and our continued collaboration with Hillsdale College.”

At Founders, students receive a “Classical” education. Founders Classical Academy provides time-tested methods of educating students. Students are taught the fundamentals of English grammar; American and world history through the reading of primary source documents; the great stories of human struggle and yearning told by the greatest storytellers—Homer, Shakespeare, Milton, and Melville; the principles of liberty and self-government as articulated by the Founding Fathers of this great country; and the ennobling beauties found in painting, sculpture, and song. The entire curriculum at Founders is based in Classical Liberal Arts and Sciences with a strong emphasis on civic education.

“Reform of American public education, to be successful and good, must be built on a foundation of classical liberal arts learning—the kind of learning best suited to a free society and most needed for its preservation,” said Phillip W. Kilgore, Director of the Barney Charter School Initiative. “The Barney Charter School Initiative is an important step in that direction.”

Founders Classical Academy engages students in learning and character building in order to cultivate wise and virtuous men and women who will be responsible citizens of our republic. The school believes that students who have been taught to write forcefully by studying Shakespeare and Paine, who have learned to speak by studying the speeches of Cicero and Lincoln, who have learned to think through difficult problems by studying the Constitution through an analysis of The Federalist Papers, and who revel in the rigors of Latin grammar will be better prepared for college and a career.

Founders Classical Academy Students and Teachers 9/11 Tribute

More than 600 students, teachers, military and service personnel gathered on the grounds of Founders Classical Academy campus to make their own symbolic tribute to the victims and service men and women fallen on 9/11.

Each student carried flags in a formation that covered an entire field with 2,981 flags representing each person that perished on 9/11, 11 years ago. Local firefighters and military personnel from each branch of the military participated in presentations about what liberty and life means to them.

Most of the students participating were not even born the day of the attacks, and those who were could barely walk. But, they are being taught the significance of this day and its impact on United States History and their lives as well. Creating the formation will help them better understand what happened 11 years ago and the sacrifices made by the men and women who lost their lives.
